Chicago cop faulted for fatal shooting — 10 months after he resigned

Chicago police oversight authorities have ruled that an officer was unjustified in fatally shooting an unarmed man in 2011, but the ruling comes some 10 months after he resigned.

Nearly five years to the day after Officer Gildardo Sierra shot 29-year-old Flint Farmer to death on the South Side, the Independent Police Review Authority on Friday released a ruling saying the officer acted unreasonably. Sierra, who resigned in August 2015, was involved in three shootings, two of them fatal, in a six-month span. He admitted to drinking multiple beers before starting the shift on which he shot Farmer, according to court records.
