Les familles, amiEs et alliéEs de personnes tuées par la police organisent la quatrième vigile commémorative annuelle pour se souvenir de ceux et celles qui ont perdu la vie aux mains de la police. Ces familles, qui font face à une bataille inégale pour découvrir la vérité et obtenir la justice pour leurs proches, ont besoin de notre soutien.
 
Le but de cette vigile est de:
COMMÉMORER les victimes qui ont perdu la vie à cause de la violence et des abus policiers;
et
SOUTENIR leurs familles par tous les moyens possibles.
 
Nous organisons cet événement ensemble le 22 octobre parce que cette date est la Journée nationale de protestation aux États-Unis organisée par la Coalition pour arrêter la brutalité policière, la répression et la criminalisation d'une génération, qui se mobilise à chaque année depuis 1996 (info: www.october22.org).
 
Cette année, nous dénonçons en particulier les morts récentes aux mains de la police de Eric Garner (17 juillet 2014)  à New York, John Crawford (5 août 2014) à Beavercreek, Ohio, et Mike Brown (9 août 2014) à Ferguson, Missouri, tous des hommes noirs assassinés cet été par la police. En solidarité avec les revendication des organisations de base Afro-Américaines aux USA, nous affirmons que LES VIES NOIRES COMPTENT (« Black Lives Matter » ). La Coalition Justice pour les Victimes de Bavures Policières commémore Anas Bennis (1er décembre 2005), Claudio Castagnetta (20 septembre 2007), Ben Matson (12 mai 2002), Jean-François Nadreau (16 février 2012), Quilem Registre (18 octobre 2007), Gladys Tolley (5 octobre 2001) et Fredy Villanueva (9 août) et nous soutenons leurs familles.
 
À Montréal, plus de 90 personnes sont mortes aux mains de la police de Montréal depuis la mort de Anthony Griffin, un jeune noir âgé de 19 ans à NDG en 1987. Ceci inclus entre autres les morts récentes de Mario Hamel et Patrick Limoges (7 juin 2011), Farshad Mohammadi (6 janvier 2012), Robert Hénault (8 août 2013), Isidore Havis (17 août 2013) et Alain Magloire (4 février 2014). Nous voulons aussi souligner la mort de Guy Blouin à Québec le 3 septembre 2014 après qu'il ait été frappé à vélo par une voiture de police, ainsi que la mort de Daniel Satre le 20 septembre dernier à Ballston Spa (État de New York) après qu'il ait été tasé et battu par la police alors qu'il était en crise.
 
Cette année, nous soutenons aussi toutes les personnes qui ont survécu à des tabassages par la police. Ceci inclus Didier Berry qui a été hospitalisé après avoir été battu par la police de Montréal le 24 octobre 2012; Alexis Vadeboncoeur qui a été battu par quatre agents de la police de Trois-Rivières le 2 février 2013; et Norbert Mestenapeo, un jeune père Innu qui a été brutalement battu par la Sûreté du Québec le 16 juillet 2013 dans la communauté de Unamen Shipu sur la Côte-Nord.

La Coalition Justice pour les victimes de bavures policières est actuellement composée des membres des familles et alliéEs de Anas Bennis, Claudio Castagnetta, Ben Matson, Jean-François Nadreau, Quilem Registre, Glays Tolley et Fredy Villanueva. Toutes ces personnes sont mortes suite à des actions et interventions policières. Nous continuons à prendre contact avec des familles et amiEs d’autres victimes d’assassinats policiers.
 
Cette initiative est née dans la foulée du Forum contre la violence policière et l’impunité en 2010, lors duquel les familles ont exprimé le désir de se rassembler afin de commémorer leurs proches et de renforcer leurs luttes respectives pour la dignité, la justice et la vérité. La date symbolique du 22 octobre, choisie comme jour de la marche de commémoration des victimes des assassinats policiers, coïncide avec la Journée nationale de manifestations organisée aux Etats-Unis par la Coalition du 22 octobre pour mettre fin à la brutalité policière, la répression et la criminalisation d’une génération, qui mobilise le public chaque année depuis 1996.

The families of people killed by the police, along with their friends and their allies, are organizing the 5th annual commemorative vigil to remember those who have lost their lives at the hands of the police. These families, who face an uphill battle in uncovering the truth and obtaining justice for their loved ones, need our support.
 
The purpose of the march is to:
REMEMBER the victims who lost their lives to police violence and abuse;
and
SUPPORT their families in any way we can.
 
We organize together on October 22 to coincide with the National Day of Protest in the United States organized by the October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation, which has been mobilizing every year since 1996 (info: www.october22.org).
 
This year, we denounce in particular the recent police killings of Eric Garner (July 17, 2014) in New York City, John Crawford (August 5 ,2014) in Beavercreek, Ohio, and Mike Brown (August 9, 2014) in Ferguson, Missouri, all black men murdered by the police this year. The Justice for the Victims of Police Killings Coalition remembers Anas Bennis (December 1, 2005), Claudio Castagnetta (September 20, 2007), Ben Matson (May 12, 2002), Jean-François Nadreau (February 16, 2012), Quilem Registre (October 18, 2007), Gladys Tolley (October 5, 2001) & Fredy Villanueva (August 9, 2008), and we support their families and friends.
 
In Montreal, there have been more than 90 people have been killed as a result of the actions of the Montreal police since the killing of 19 year-old black youth Anthony Griffin in NDG in 1987. This includes the more recent killings of Mario Hamel and Patrick Limoges (June 7, 2011), Farshad Mohammadi (January 6, 2012), Robert Hénault (August 8, 2013), Isidore Havis (August 17, 2013) and Alain Magloire (February 4, 2014). We also highlight the death of Guy Blouin in Quebec City on September 3, 2014, after he was hit by a police car while riding a bike, as well as the death of Daniel Satre on September 20, 2014 at Ballston Spa in upstate New York, who was tasered and beaten by police while in a state of crisis.
 
This year, we also support all those who have survived police beatings. This includes Didier Berry who was beaten and hospitalized by Montreal police on October 24, 2012; Alexis Vadeboncoeur who was beaten by four officers in Trois-Rivières on February 2, 2013; and Norbert Mestenapeo, a young Innu father who was brutally beaten by Sûreté du Québec police on July 16, 2013 in the community of Unamen Shipu on the North Shore.

About the Justice for the Victims of Police Killings Coalition:
 
The Justice for the Victims of Police Killings Coalition currently involves the family members and friends of Anas Bennis, Claudio Castagnetta, Ben Matson, Jean-François Nadreau, Quilem Registre, Gladys Tolley and Fredy Villanueva, all of whom died as a direct result of police actions and interventions. We continue to reach out to family and friends of other victims of police killings.
 
This initiative came out of the Forum Against Police Violence and Impunity in 2010, during which the families expressed their desire to come together to remember their loved ones and strengthen their respective struggles for dignity, justice and the truth. The symbolic date of October 22 was subsequently chosen for a family-friendly event to commemorate the victims of police killings to coincide with the National Day of Protest in the United States organized by the October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation, which has been mobilizing every year since 1996.
