Delay in Police Act investigation in Anthony Heffernan death 'outrageous': lawyer

The lawyer for the family of a man killed by Calgary police in 2015 says a three-year delay into a Police Act investigation is outrageous.

Anthony Heffernan was shot dead by Calgary police in March 2015 in a northeast hotel room.

A subsequent Alberta Serious Incident Response Team investigation found there were grounds for criminal charges to be laid, however, a Crown prosecutor believed there were no reasonable grounds for a conviction. Following that, a Police Act investigation was launched to determine whether disciplinary action was warranted against any of the officers involved.
