2 dead following brutal stabbing, police shooting in downtown Kingston

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that Kingston police arrived during the attack of the first victim. In fact, the SIU is reporting that Kingston police arrived during the second attack. The story has been changed to reflect that.

A Kingston man was shot by police after he stabbed two people on Thursday on Queen Street. Police sources confirmed that two people have died as a result of the incident.

The Special Investigations Unit has confirmed one of the deceased was the suspect in the stabbing.

According to an SIU, a 22-year-old man began attacking a 40-year-old man at Queen and Bagot streets on Thursday around 2 p.m. The 40-year-old man succumbed to the injuries he sustained during the attack, according to the SIU.

Kingston police then arrived and saw the 22-year-old attacking another individual, who Kingston police have now identified as an 85-year-old man, who survived the attack.
