Stop firing rubber bullets at protesters

A hundred and sixty-five miles northwest from where George Floyd will be laid to rest on Tuesday in Houston, a 16-year-old boy is recovering in hospital from seven-hour surgery.

Brad Levi Ayala was struck once in the skull and twice in the torso by police rubber bullets, his family says. The Austin Police Department counters no, it was “bean bag ammunition.’’

Video of the May 30 incident can be viewed all over social media. The teenager is standing on a hillock, by himself. At the bottom of the footage, a uniformed police officer raises something to his face. Suddenly, the youth drops to the ground. Somebody yells: “Medic! Medic! Medic! Jesus Christ.’’
