SQ investigating death following police operation

A man was fatally struck by a métro train shortly after speaking to police on Sunday evening in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, and provincial police are investigating the death, as mandated by law.

Montreal police received a call around 7:30 p.m. about a disturbed man on Oxford St. After meeting with the 36-year-old man, police decided that he did not pose a threat to himself or others. “Officers left him under the care of his family,” Sgt. Claude Denis of the Sûreté du Québec said.

Around 8 p.m., police were told that the same man had been fatally struck by a train at Villa Maria métro station. It is unknown whether it was a suicide.

But since a death happened shortly after a police operation, another police department must handle the investigation, Denis said.
