Judge calls for probe into Lower Sackville Mounties’ handling of teenage girl

A judge says there needs to be an investigation into the conduct of two Lower Sackville RCMP officers who responded to a 911 call last spring involving a teenage girl who was out of control after ingesting drugs.

The 17-year-old, who received bruises and abrasions over her entire body and was Tasered during the incident, also suffered a concussion. She ended up being charged with assaulting both officers and breaching a recognizance.

Her identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

She stood trial recently in Halifax youth court, with Judge Patrick Curran finding her not guilty on all charges.

“I’m not satisfied that the (girl’s) actions … were done deliberately,” Curran said in his Dec. 14 decision.
