///

Solidairement,

Montréal Antifasciste

CALL FOR AN ANTIFASCIST CONTINGENT IN THE ANNUAL MAY DAY DEMONSTRATION

MEETING POINT OF THE ANTIFASCIST CONTINGENT: Cabot Square (Atwater metro), 6:30 pm (near the Montréal Antifasciste banner)

CLAC demonstration callout: https://www.clac-montreal.net/en/node/719

IWW day of action callout: https://www.facebook.com/events/630732480700454/

Montréal Antifasciste endorses the anticapitalist demonstration on May Day, organized by our comrades from the Convergence des luttes anticapitalistes (CLAC), as well as the May Day of action called by the IWW. We are also calling for the formation of an antifascist contingent as part of the CLAC's demonstration.

This year's demonstration focuses on the links between capitalism and imperialist and colonial borders, as well as supports migrant workers (read the original callout here: https: //www.clac-montreal.net/fr/node/719). We consider it more important than ever to make these connections, given recent anti-immigration and Islamophobic bills proposed by the CAQ, increased mobilizations of far-right groups and individuals, and the normalization of racist, xenophobic and Islamophobic rhetoric in the media as well as within Quebec's political sphere. As we have seen recently, following the Islamophobic terror attack that took place in Christchurch, New Zealand, such xenophobic rhetoric can have real, tragic and irreversible consequences.

It is more important than ever to firmly state that all anticapitalism must also be antifascist, and vice versa. The anticapitalist and antifascist left must be more present, visible and strong, and it must embody an alternative to the rhetoric of far-right groups that blame immigrants, refugees and Muslims for socio-economic problems that are in fact caused by a system that works only for the benefit of the rich and the elite, and at the expense of workers and the poor.

We encourage you to join us at the meeting point of the demonstration (Square Cabot) at 6:30 pm. Prior to the CLAC demo, IWW's May Day of Action, focusing on intersectional feminism, will take place in Parc-Extension from 2 to 5 pm. A food service, offered by our friends from Food Against Fascism, will be followed by a series of speeches and a short neighborhood demonstration. Finally, a show organized by the Immigrant Workers Centre will be presented in front of the Parc subway station!

We hope you will join us for both of these events on this May Day!

In solidarity,

Montréal Antifasciste
