More GTA residents believe police have anti-Black bias as Black residents continue to report frequent police stops, study finds

Perceptions of police and court discrimination against Black people in the Greater Toronto Area have increased over the past 25 years, according to a survey of nearly 1,500 residents.

The findings, released in a paper prepared by the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers and published by Ryerson University Faculty of Law, also conclude that Black people continue to be disproportionately stopped by police, with the volume of incidents reported by survey respondents undiminished by recent provincial legislation that sought to end random police stopping, questioning and documenting of citizens.
