The province’s police watchdog is investigating two fatal officer-involved shootings on Thursday.
Just after 4 a.m., RCMP officers conducting a traffic stop in Gleichen, a hamlet about 95 kilometres east of Calgary, spotted a firearm inside the vehicle.
There was a confrontation as RCMP attempted to arrest the driver, leading to one of the officers discharging his service firearm. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
