London police officer pleads guilty to assault

A London police officer has pleaded guilty to assault.

Police say Sgt. Peter Paquette entered the plea in a London courtroom on Wednesday.

He was given a conditional discharge and sentenced to probation for two years, police say.

He was charged in June 2017 in relation to an incident at police headquarters on Sept. 6, 2016, and placed on administrative duty.

Police say their professional standards branch will conduct an internal investigation.

Sgt. Paquette will remain on administrative duty pending its decision.
