Le Festival International de Théâtre Anarchiste de Montréal (FITAM) revient pour sa 13e édition, les 22 et 23 mai 2018, 19h30, à la Sala Rossa.

Pisser dans l’herbe – Théâtre du sable
“Camille, bergère en prison, refuse de se soumettre à l’autorité de l’administration pénitentiaire”

La pièce dresse un tableau qui interroge la justice, l’administration pénitentiaire et les modes répressifs préconisés depuis toujours.

Écrite par Philippe Giai-Miniet en collaboration avec Christine Ribailly, elle est aussi composée de lettres de Philippe Lalouel, Émilie D. et d’extraits du livre “Pourquoi faudrait-il punir?” de Catherine Baker.

Le Théâtre du Sable travaille en France depuis une vingtaine d’années avec le réseau culturel du territoire de la communauté d’agglomérations de Saint-Quentin en Yvelines (Ile de France).

Christine RIBAILLY: Elle est éducatrice, puis devient bergère. Détenue pendant 4 ans, elle obtient une libération conditionnelle le 22 décembre 2016 et a repris depuis son activité pastorale.

Philippe GIAI-MINIET:
Comédien formé à l‘École du Passage de Niels Arestrup. Il travaille au CDN de Sartrouville avec Laurent Fréchuret sur des missions culturelles. Il joue avec le Théâtre du Sable, le Théâtre du Mantois, le Collectif kultursch’iok, travaille pour Michel Valmer, Sylvain Man, Michel Vinaver. Fin 2015, alors qu’elle est en détention, il sollicite Christine Ribailly pour l’écriture de « Pisser dans l’herbe… ».

Marie-Paule GUILLET
Diplômée d’une maitrise en psychologie sociale, comédienne et metteure en scène, elle travaille avec Etienne Guichard au sein de la Cie Théâtre du Sable. Sollicitée pour la pièce “Pisser dans l’herbe…” elle signe la mise en scène et la direction d’acteur.

Gwenael Kivijer – Chanteur et accordéoniste voyageur – Chansons anarchistes
Quel est le point commun entre une péniche, un charbonnier et l’explosion d’un Commissariat ? Ce sont trois histoires humaines qui chacune raconte comment il ne faut jamais se laisser faire, qu’il faut croire en ses utopies, croire en soi et lutter sans cesse contre les abus de pouvoir de toutes sortes ! Ces chansons décrivent à leur manière comment vivre sa liberté!

Gwenael est chanteur et accordéoniste. Il a appris à chanter, à danser et à jouer avec les anciens en Bretagne et ailleurs. Se produisant à l’international depuis 15 ans dans divers groupes, il joue très rarement en solo. Il évolue essentiellement dans la musique traditionnelle, mais a joué aussi dans la chanson française et dans le hip-hop. Gwenael a participé à créé la cellule de la CNT (Confédération Nationale du Travail) en Poitou, en France et y fut actif pendant 7 ans. Il a aussi écrit un article dans la revue Les Temps Maudits sur la culture.

Trashlaga Puppet Crew

No Way! No Way! Part I: Italy, 1926, Spain, 1936, Germany, 1943 – Trees That Talk

The trees whisper to each other, their voices rising and falling, “The Fascists are coming? The Fascists are here? No way! No way! We will help stop them.”
In the mountains, the hills, forests, villages and cities, in the workplaces, schools and homes, anti-fascists meet, organize, hide, regroup and live to fight again and again. Six anarchist anti-fascist women from Italy, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Greece and Syria, from 1920 to 2018, are portrayed in this short dramatical piece performed in two parts over two nights.
Each night will feature three different historical and contemporary courageous women from real life. They will share their fears, dreams, and ideas, and about why they are not afraid to stand up and be counted among those who resist fascism and tyranny and fight for freedom.
Trees That Talk is an ephemeral collective of Montreal actors. Tonight:
Julie Tristant as the Italian anarchist poet, Virgilia;
Seeley Quest as the Spanish anarchist CNT/FAI member, Libertad;
Caileigh Crow as the German anarcho-syndicalist, anti-Nazi, Hedwig.

Julie Tristant is a French actress. She studied acting in Paris, performed in a well known Parisian theatre called “Théâtre de la Pépinière”, and played in a few short films. She then moved to Montreal in 2014 where she appeared in various feature films and television commercials (non-speaking roles) before finding lead roles in several short films. She likes to compete with her teams in short films competition. She recently was nominated for best supporting actress at the 48 Hour Film Awards in Los Angeles. She is a globe trotter and speaks French, English, Spanish and Italian.

Caleigh Crow is a writer, musician, and performer. Writing credits include HEXEN, The Order of the Poor Ladies, Kill Time Before Time Kills You, and There is Violence and There is Righteous Violence and There is Death; or The Born-Again Crow. Her work tends towards themes of misogyny, metaphysics, class struggle, magic, and revenge. This summer you can find her in the sketch comedy show Betch-A- Sketch at the St Ambroise Montreal FRINGE Festival and playing bass guitar and singing in the band Pope Joan (check them out on Bandcamp).

Seeley Quest is a trans disabled performer, writer, curator and environmentalist based in Oakland California over 16 years, now in graduate school here. Sie has worked in literary and body-based performance since 2001 around the San Francisco Bay Area, and has toured to present in Vancouver, Toronto and many U.S. cities and colleges. Ask about hir cabaret organizing in Montreal, and collaborating to develop a script for disabled actors in a sexually charged power play. Sie hopes to honour a legacy against fascism, by females and everyone who has challenged the gender privilege system.

Didi & Gogo – MC Theatre Troupe
Didi & Gogo is a radical adaptation of Waiting for Godot. Didi & Gogo, performed by two women of color, bring new meaning to issues of violence/war, poverty, food deserts, hopelessness and who is abandoned in a time of crisis.

Karla-Julia Ramos has been acting since 2012. She began at the City College Academy of the Arts, where she performed in The Wiz, Our Town, and Bye Bye Birdie. She was also the lead in Once Upon a Mattress and The Secret Case of Sherlock Homes. Karla-Julia received an honorary acting award from the academy. She has continued her training at Marlboro College under Jean O’Hara. Karla-Julia played five characters in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, a lead role Honey Brown Eyes, and devised and performed an original piece in the MC Drag Show: Kings, Queens and Much More. Her most recent work is the co-creation of an original adaptation of Waiting for Godot where she plays Didi (Vladimir).

Jean O’Hara is a director whose primarily focus is devised ensemble based theatre that addresses socio-political issues. She has been a collaborator with the San Francisco Mime Troupe and the Dell’Arte School of Physical Theatre. Jean has also worked in partnership with Klamath Theatre Project , Native Earth Performing Arts, Centre for Indigenous Theatre, and Spiderwoman Theatre. She is a Theatre if the Oppressed practitioner who has worked nationally and internationally.

The Wah Wah Pedal – Thought Experiment Productions
A Wah Wah pedal is a very interesting object. It is a type of effects pedal that alters the tone and frequencies of the signal to create a distinctive sound, mimicking the human voice (a voice saying/crying ‘wah-wah-wah-wah…’). The pedal sweeps the peak response of a frequency filter up and down in frequency to create the sound, a spectral glide, also known as ‘the wah effect’.
One of the curious properties of this effects pedal is that it sometimes catches radio frequencies when the frequency that is chosen by the player happens to be the same frequency as the one used by a given radio station. For some it might be
annoying. But for others who like things to be unpredictable, it is often the source of incredible discoveries.
In this performance, we are introduced to the object, its properties and its strange behaviour. A pedal that was sold by an anonymous person has the property of reaching radio frequencies that are not mainstream and deliver messages to the listener(s) that are often very different from the messages that are heard on the mainstream media. We witness the attempt at comparing the messages with a ‘mainstream’ Wah pedal; attempts at combining the two pedals in different orders; and attempts at combing the Wah pedals with other types of effects pedal that distort or emphasize parts of the signal so as to create new meanings.
The result is a very interesting perspective on the power of mainstream manipulation, on the agenda that are pursued and on the possibility of turning on to other sources and thus on the possibility of change, at the individual level and at the collective one as well.

Thought Experiment Productions is the continuation of nü.kolektif, an Istanbul-based collective of interdisciplinary artists, founded in 2009, that offers politically oriented performances (feminist dramaturgy, antimilitarist, antinationalist, antiracist, etc.).
They also work inside Boal’s framework of the Theatre of the Oppressed.
Thought Experiment was born following the moving of the two founders to Montreal.

Ülfet Sevdi is a writer, theatre director, dramaturge and Theatre of the Oppressed practitioner based in Montreal and Istanbul.

Nicolas Royer-Artuso is a composer, musician, musicologist, linguist, music teacher, Theatre of the Oppressed practitioner based in Montreal and Istanbul.

Les 6 comédiens sont des artistes québécois de la cohorte 2016-2017 de l’ENT.

This is the second part of the piece based on the lives of three contemporary anti-fascist women, two of whom are anarchists.
“How can we expect righteousness to prevail when there is hardly anyone willing to give themselves up individually to a righteous cause? Such a fine sunny day, and I have to go, but what does my death matter, if through us thousands of people are awakened and stirred to action?” The final words of Sophie Scholl, executed in 1943 for leading German student resistance against Hitler. She was 21.

Silan Dede: “Je suis une fille de 17 ans d’origine Kurd. Je suis née ici, mais depuis ma tendre enfance, mes parents m’ont toujours raconté un tas d’histoire à propos de mes origines kurdes et depuis, j’ai un certaine fierté et une certaine colère en moi. Fierté d’avoir dans mes veines, toute les richesse d’une culture. Colère de voir toutes les injustices que mon peuple vit à chaque jour. C’est pourquoi j’essaie de m’impliquer le plus possible dans ma communauté, comme le cas de cette pièce. J’ai fait du théâtre tout mon secondaire et je suis content de jouer dans cette festival.”
