B.C. police watchdog recommends charges against VPD officers

A B.C. police watchdog is recommending charges against Vancouver police officers involved in an arrest that left a man with serious injuries two years ago at the Commercial-Broadway SkyTrain station.

The Independent Investigation Office of B.C. has filed a report to the B.C. Prosecution Service for consideration of charges.

On May 24, 2017, a man suffered serious injuries during an interaction with VPD officers, according to the IIO.

Shortly after 10 p.m., officers attempted to stop a man for riding a bike with no helmet, lights or suitable reflectors.

Police reported the man fled and was then arrested by VPD officers. During the arrest the man suffered serious injuries. The IIO did not say how the man was injured.
