Watchdog to investigate after 'distraught man' dead in Chilliwack police shooting

According to the Independent Investigations Office of B.C., Chilliwack RCMP negotiated for six hours before shots were fired by police. The 'distraught man' did not survive.

B.C.’s Independent Investigations Office is investigating a police-involved shooting in Chilliwack that left one man dead.

Chilliwack RCMP were called just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday about a distraught man who was believed to have firearms in his possession. When police arrived in the 46000-block of Christina Drive in Sardis, shots were fired at police.

No officers were hit, however, an emergency response team, RCMP crisis negotiators and a police helicopter were a called in, while police urged nearby residents to remain in their homes.
