Alberta RCMP officer charged with pointing gun, confining motorist while off duty

A northern Alberta Mountie is facing criminal charges after a roadside confrontation with a motorist during which he allegedly pulled a gun.

Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) executive director Susan Hughson announced charges against the Wood Buffalo RCMP member Friday.

Hughson said the incident happened Dec. 28, 2017, on a highway west of Barrhead. The Mountie was off-duty and driving his personal vehicle when he became “embroiled in a driving dispute,” Hughson said.

During the dispute, the RCMP member allegedly confronted the woman driving the other vehicle, pointed a gun at her and confined her at roadside. ASIRT was directed to investigate in February 2018.
