Halifax cell death trial sees police officers pointing fingers

HALIFAX — Booking officers failed to follow proper procedures the night Corey Rogers died in a Halifax police cell three years ago, Nova Scotia Supreme Court heard on Tuesday.

Crown prosecutor Chris Vanderhooft is arguing that the two officers failed to fulfil their duty to care for Rogers when he was brought to the Halifax police station in a very intoxicated state. They failed to properly check on Rogers by not calling his name or attempting to rouse him while he was alone in a police cell and did not remove the spit hood from his head.
