Man shot by Sudbury police fighting to have evidence released

The lawyer for a man Greater Sudbury Police shot last spring wants the province’s Special Investigations Unit to immediately disclose the evidence it has collected in the case.

“My client is going to go to trial without knowing what evidence there is,” Denis Michel told Justice Louise Serre on Thursday. “We have to get all the reports from the SIU. To say that that is not relevant is not correct … This is not how we do matters. You can’t do that to the accused. He doesn’t know the entirety of the case. He knows bits and pieces …

“It’s about providing disclosure. It’s about preparing a proper defence.”

Michel is representing Quinn Campbell, one of two people charged following an incident April 10, 2019, at the Esso station on Regent Street.

Police were tracking the pickup truck Campbell and the second accused, Stacey Schneller, were in, following an alleged robbery in southern Ontario.
