Who is Mumia?

Mumia Abu-Jamal has been writing since age 15, first as Minister of Information for the Philadelphia Black Panthers (1969-1971), then for numerous Philadelphia radio and print venues, including National Public Radio. Mumia is an internationally-recognized award-winning journalist known as, “the voice of the voiceless” for his many years spent writing about issues relating to racism in Philadelphia, the murder of local MOVE organization people, people in prison, and more.

Mumia has written eight books and countless articles and commentaries from a prison cell on death row in Pennsylvania.

The movement for Mumia Abu-Jamal is an international network that has taken to the streets for over thirty years to stop two state-sponsored executions, organized to overturn his death sentence, recently sponsored a landmark court case which forced the PA Department of Corrections to administer treatment for his Hepatitis C.
