IIO decides that Prince Rupert officer did not use excessive force in arrest of drunk man

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is not recommending charges for a Prince Rupert RCMP officer after a man’s arm was broken while being taken into custody on June 23, 2016.

The man was found drunk in a public place at 2:05 p.m. in a flower bed between Safeway and the BC Liquor Store. When the officer attempted to arrest the man’s arm was broken above the elbow. The IIO was notified of the incident on the same day and investigated the police officers actions.
