Demonstration in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal) in solidarity with Wet’suwet’en

Let’s support Wet’suwet’en against the colonial brutality of the Canadian state!

Armed with assault rifles, the RCMP has arrested 28 activists from Wet’suwet’en since February 6. Their crime? To defend their lands, their communities, their laws and their ancestral customs threatened by gas pipeline projects carried out by large oil and gas companies.

Since 2009, Wet’suwet’en has protected their territory by establishing checkpoints (Unist’ot’en and Gidimt’en). The goal is to prevent access to the construction of various pipeline projects, including, since 2018, the Coastal GasLink project of TC Energy (formerly TransCanada). This $6 billion project involves the construction of a 670-kilometre pipeline from Dawson Creek to the port city Kitimat. This pipeline is a central component of LNG Canada’s port liquefied natural gas terminal. The terminal represents the largest investment project in Canadian history—$40 billion—put forward by multinational oil and gas giant companies, including Shell and PetroChina.

Under Wet’suwet’en law (’Anuc niwh’it’en), each clan of Wet’suwet’en has full jurisdiction over their territory. The five clans are unanimous. Pipeline projects will not go through: no consent has been given.

Let’s show the state that police brutality will not pass. Let’s respond to the call to action launched by Wet’suwet’en people : #ShutDownCanada!

MEETING POINT : THIS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21 AT 2 PM AT THE SAINT-LAURENT METRO

SPEAKERS : (to be announced)
